CHRISTMAS
From Tuesday, 25 December 2018
To Sunday, 06 January 2019
València celebrates Christmas with multi-coloured lights in the streets and shops, and with decorations in different public places, Christmas carols, nativity scene exhibitions, Christmas trees, a Christmas market at Mercat de Colom and, above all, leisure activities for children including a circus.
Visitors can also take a Nativity scene tour and see the competing scenes in the contest organised by the Junta Central Fallera (Falles Central Board). As well as this there are those put together by the Association of the Fishermen’s Holy Week, the Cathedral of València, the Basilica, or the municipal life-size Nativity Scene installed at the Plaça de la Reina by the València City Hall.
On Christmas Eve and on Boxing Day, and the days before and after, choirs sign traditional carols in Plaça de l’Ajuntament, which is the historic centre, and in some other districts. On December 30th, Valencians can participate in the race of Saint Silvester in downtown València, which attracts thousands of people, many of them in fancy dresses. Some neighbourhoods, such as Patraix, have their own New Year's Eve party.
