FALLAS ARTISTS MUSEUM

The Ciutat de l’Artista Faller project not only included workshops for building fallas, but also a training school, a guild home (for offices, library and auditorium) and a museum for representative exhibits of Fallas art and other artwork made by these artists. The first stone of the museum building and the guild house was laid in 1978, but it was not actually inaugurated until 1993, coinciding with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Fallas Artists Guild.

Since then, the Fallas Artist Museum mostly exhibits the figurines called ninots reprieved from the flames by popular vote. These are intended to provide as broad a vision as possible of the creativity, trends, and themes offered in the Fallas festivity down through the years. There is no lack of information on the evolution of typical fallas over the years, with explanations of falla construction processes, especially the way papier-mâché is shaped, basic carpentry principles, as well as work in expanded polystyrene. Completing the exhibition is an interesting collection of fallas models and original drawings of fallas and carriages, photographs of fallas, and examples of other Fallas artist creations in the form of posters, llibrets (Fallas books), magazines, illustrations, decorative ceramics (Lladró Porcelain) and sculptures.

The exhibit is recognised as a permanent museum collection by the Department of Culture of the Generalitat Valenciana, the regional government. Since 2016, the museum is complemented by the Els Tallers multidisciplinary exhibition space (located in the former workshop of Pasqual Gimeno).
